Nelson Edwin "John" Thompson , age 84, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. He was born in Cherry Grove, WV, on July 15, 1940, the son of the late Everett and Myrtle (Warner) Thompson. On June 17, 1961, John married Peggy Elizabeth (Harper) Thompson, who survives in Franklin.
Mr. Thompson was a 1960 graduate of Circleville High School and was a member of Living Faith Church in Franklin. He loved putting puzzles together, traveling, eating out, and being with family. John had a passion for being outside and took pride in doing yard work. He was employed by Fairfield Bridge for several years, Thompson's Trash Company in Winchester, City of Winchester Water and retired from in 2003 Old Town Mall, after 19 years of service. Following his retirement, he moved back to Franklin in 2005 and worked for Friendshill Greenhouse, Sites Fire and Equipment, and Murphy's Fencing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Thompson leaves behind to cherish his memory: his brothers, Everett Olin Thompson (Libby) of Bunker Hill, WV, Berlie Thompson (Frances) of Winchester, VA; a sister, Mary Ruth Raines of Circleville, WV; nieces and nephews; and his caretaker, Terri Grogg of Franklin, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Kenneth Harlan Thompson; a brother-in-law, Bobbie L. Raines..
Mr. Thompson's family will receive friends on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Brad Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: any Pendleton County Rescue Squad, or Samaritan's Purse, POB 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
