Ona Green Hedrick , age 83, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born on December 20, 1937 in Riverton, WV, the son of the late Leslie Brown and Dessie Florence (Lambert) Hedrick. On August 31, 1957, Green married Mary Lea (Smith) Hedrick, who survives in Franklin.
Green was a 1955 graduate of Franklin High School and he retired in 1992 from General Motors, after working 30 years. He was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Franklin Ruritan Club, the Franklin Moose Lodge #769 (where he received his Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 2011), and the UAW. He enjoyed traveling and had a passion for volunteering for numerous organizations, including CAN, Pendleton Senior and Family Services, Potomac Highland Rec Center (Bowling Alley), Adopt a Highway, Pendleton County CERT, and the American Red Cross blood drive. Green loved to feed the wildlife, including the deer, squirrels, birds, and rabbits.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hedrick is survived by: a daughter, Linda S. Hedrick of Franklin, WV; and a son, Glenn L. Hedrick (Kathy) of Fallston, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Bowers.
Mr. Hedrick's family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV, with a Pilgrim Degree of Merit Service at 7 PM, conducted by the Franklin Moose Lodge #769. Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin. In honoring the family's wishes, please make memorial donations to Franklin Rescue Squad or charity of the donor's choice.
