Obituary

Patricia Ann McDowell, age 75, of Harpers Ferry, WV and formerly of Maysville, WV, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at her home. She was born on July 31, 1950 in Petersburg, the daughter of the late Philip and Josephine (May-Heger) Reel.

Ms. McDowell was a 1967 graduate of Petersburg High School and earned 2 masters from the University of South Carolina and Stephens College in Missouri. Patricia began a career in healthcare where she became the Charge Master at Winchester Medical Center and Valley Health until her retirement. Not wanting to stay idle, she began working part-time at the Shepherd University Library. Patricia was a wealth of knowledge who loved to read and was a master of the crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed photography and even developed her own film. Patricia leaves behind the love she had for her family and the desire to never stop learning.

Patricia leaves behind to cherish her memory: a son, Brad McDowell (Katherine) of Harpers Ferry, WV; 4 sisters, Catherine Burke (George) of Summit Point, WV; Sandra Haynie of Reynolds, GA; Edith Ziegler of North Bonneville, WA; Mary Greenwalt (Bink) of Petersburg, WV; a brother, Joe Reel (Sharron) of Martinsburg, WV; ad 4 Grandchildren, Logan Foutz, Ella, Ari, and Eli McDowell.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Reel.

Patricia's family will receive friends on Thursday, July 2, 2026, 10-11 AM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Matt Perrine officiating. Interment will be at the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, WV.
