Pauline Lillian Sponaugle, age 86, of Hunting Ground WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. She was born on July 17, 1939, on Back Ridge, near Hunting Ground in Circleville, WV, the daughter of the late Arlie and Iva (Sponaugle) Warner. Pauline was married to the late Gilbert Sponaugle.
Pauline attended Back Ridge School and was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church. She had worked at Victor Tube Corporation in Harrisonburg, VA, as well as Hanover Shoe, showcasing her dedication and strong work ethic.
She lived a life marked by kindness and a loving spirit, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Throughout her life, she was known for her deep love of family, especially cherishing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Pauline's warmth and generosity were widely recognized and treasured. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love for her family, and her kindness.
A lover of country music, Pauline found great comfort and happiness in the tunes of legendary artists such as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, and Alan Jackson. She enjoyed in playing the guitar, a passion that reflected her joyful and creative spirit.
Pauline leaves behind to cherish her memory: her son, Eber Dale Sponaugle of Circleville, WV; a step son, David Sponaugle (Kitty) of Circleville, WV; her sisters, Wanda Michael and her companion Nelson of Fishersville, VA, and Sandy Cooper of Job, WV; her half-sister, Jerlene Warner; her brother, Jearl Thompson of Hamlet, IN; and her half-brother, Jackie Warner; three grandchildren, Stefanie Huffman, Isiac Sponaugle, and Cassie Marple; five great-grandchildren: Dakota, Alayna, Hannah, Haleigh, and Colsen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a grandson, Jason; a great-granddaughter, Emily Hope; and a brother, Lee Warner.
Pauline's family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2026, 6-8 PM, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Mike Lambert officiating. Interment will be in the Sponaugle Family Cemetery (at Eber Dale's house) on Hunting Ground, Circleville, WV. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mountain View Church or the Circleville Presbyterian Church. Memories of words and comfort may be left at www.basagic.com.
