Raymond Curtis Mitchell, Jr. , age 81, of Jane Lew, WV, formerly of Franklin, WV, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Lavender Fields Assisted Living in Beverly, WV. He was born on April 30, 1944, in Matador, TX, the son of the late Sammie Letha (Hawley) and Raymond Curtis Mitchell, Sr. Curtis married Susan Jane (Pitsenbarger) Mitchell, who survives in Franklin.

Curtis attended Montivideo High School and he was a Christian by faith. He loved hunting, fishing, and playing softball. Curtis took pride in his work and had worked for more than 50 years as a stone mason.

In addition to his wife, Curtis leaves behind to cherish his memory: a son, Brian Curtis Mitchell (April) of Jane Lew, WV; a sister, Candy Reiver (Gene) of Hemet, CA; and 2 grandchildren, Austin and Brooke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Charles Alton and Thomas Jerry Mitchell.

Curtis' family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, 1-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Sam Sponaugle officiating. Interment will be in the Wagoner Cemetery in Brandywine, WV.
