Richard D. Huffman , age 90, of (North Mountain) Franklin, WV, went to be with the Lord after a long battles of illness, on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 20, 1932, in Dry Fork, WV, the son of the late Blosser and Radie (Raines) Huffman. On January 31, 1956, Richard married the love of his life and his soulmate, Mary Doris (Warner) Huffman, who survives in Franklin.
Richard was a US Army Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Following the war, Richard moved to Ohio with his new bride, Doris, where he worked at General Tires for years, before returning back to West Virginia, where he began his career of over 30 years as a loader operator with Greer Limestone Company.
Richard was an avid gardener and farmer. He loved to cook, especially make bread. Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and was known as "Nandad". Most of all, he loved spending time with what he cherished the most, his family. Richard never met a stranger and was loved by everyone.
In addition to his wife, Richard leaves behind to cherish his memory: 3 loving daughters, Sarah (Tommy) Taylor of Statesville, NC, Sandie (Danny) Smith of Franklin, WV, Susan (Vanessa) Hedrick of Franklin, WV; 6 beloved grandchildren, Bryan Taylor (Ashley Josey), Megan Taylor (TJ Church), Breanna (Tim) Hartman, Lacey Smith (Matthew Bowers), Samual (Savanna) Ruddle, Adam Ruddle; and 6 great-grandchildren, Ethan Taylor, Lucas, Mason, and Mavis Ruddle, and Tyler Bunton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 4 brothers, Thurman, Herbert, Marshall, Burl Huffman; and 4 sisters, Gae Huffman, Nola Pennybaker, Juanita Huffman, and Wilda Huffman.
Mr. Huffman's family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 2023, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Richard Huffman Family Cemetery on North Mountain, Franklin, WV, with Military Honors conducted by the US Army, Camp Dawson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Grant Memorial Hospice, any Pendleton County Rescue Squad, or Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.
