Obituary

Robert Odell "Bobby" Peer, age 78, of Brandywine, WV, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at his home. He was born on October 9, 1940, in Cumberland, MD, the son of the late Gilmore I. and Betty Jane (Martin) Peer. Bobby was married to Nancy (Adams) Gentzler of Ft. Ashby, and is survived by his companion of 37 years, Marilyn Sims of Brandywine.

Bobby attended Ridgeley High School and Ft. Ashby High School. He attended Riverside United Methodist Church and was a Veteran of the US Navy. Bobby was a lifetime member of Ft. Ashby VFW, a founding member of South Fork Ruritan Club, and a 50 year member of the UCT (United Commercial Travelers). He owned and operated Peer's Furniture since 1973, Peer's Sanitation since 1979, and he had a maintenance contract with the Sugar Grove Naval Base since 1996.

In addition to his companion, Mr. Peer is survived by: 3 sons, Anthony Todd "Tony" Peer (Karen) of Brandywine, Toby Lee Peer (Kim) of Hagerstown, MD, Michael Sims (Lori) of Louisville, KY; a daughter, Stephanie Wilson (Larry) of Fairmont, WV; a brother, Curtis Gilmore "Buddy" Peer (Mary) of Wiley Ford, WV; a half brother, Billy Peer (Tana) of Ridgeley, WV; 8 grandchildren, Nikki, Brianna, TJ, and Sara Peer, Kaitlyn and Tyler Wilson, and Ellis and Joseph Sims; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Peer.

Mr. Peer's family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 5-7 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Frank Hyder officiating, with Military Honors conducted by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard. Bobby's family will also receive friends on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 12-2 PM at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD, and funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Ft. Ashby Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Ft. Ashby VFW. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors, Pendleton County Athletics, or South Fork Volunteer Fire Department.
