Roy Jackson
Weese, Sr.
January 9, 1935 – December 16, 2021
Roy Jackson Weese Sr., age 86, of Moorefield, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Grant Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 9, 1935, the son of the late James Edward Weese and Evelyn (Bumphry) Weese. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Roy married his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Hardy) Weese, on May 10, 1954, who survives in Moorefield.
Mr. Weese was a graduate of Moorefield High School and was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Petersburg. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army where he served as a paratrooper. After his stint in the military, he went to work for the Washington DC Transit and Metro, later retiring from Pilgrim's Pride Corporation, formerly Hester Industries in Moorefield, WV where he was a truck driver and machine operator. Roy loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. However, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Weese is survived by: 1 daughter, Debbie Turner (Kelly) of Petersburg, WV; 3 sons, Roy Weese Jr. of Petersburg, WV; Steve Weese of Old Fields, WV; David Weese (Tina) of Moorefield, WV; 9 grandchildren, Nicole Tanner, Ryan Weese, Marcus Weese, Courtney Funk, McKenzie Weese, Ethen Turner, Corinne Wariner, Jackson Weese, and MaeBeth Fisher; and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Wright; 2 sisters, Ann Mazalewski; Helen Sherman; 3 brothers, Bobby Weese; Wayne Weese, and Jerry Weese; and 1 grandson, Brandon Weese.
In honoring Roy's wishes, his body will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at the Basagic Funeral Home Chapel Saturday January 29, 2022 from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or calling 800-227-2345 or the PITAR at the Potomac Highland Guild in Petersburg, WV at www.thephg.org .
