Obituary

Russell Ray "Bud" Day, age 85 of Riverton, WV, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home. He was born on October 29, 1933, in Key, WV, the son of the late Russell and Elsie (Harper) Day. On November 6, 1956, Ray married Joyce Elaine (Hedrick) Day, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2015.

Mr. Day attended Dixie Schoolhouse and was a 1952 graduate of Circlevile High School. He retired from Department of Highways and had delivered the Elkins Inter-Mountain and the Clarksburg Exponent for more than 20 years. He was a founding member and active with North Fork Rescue Squad for more than 30 years. Ray was a former commander of American Legion Post #183.

Mr. Day is survived by: 3 daughters, Sharon Bell (Leslie) of Riverton, Diana Kessel of Maysville, WV, Karen Greenwalt (Timothy) of Moorefield, WV; 2 sons, Carl Day (Cheryl) of Mt. Vernon, OH, Larry Day of Riverton; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Donna Jean Hedrick of Maysville, Betty Baker of Mt. Vernon, OH, Josephine Day of Riverton; and 3 brothers, Erman Day of Riverton, Dewey Day of Mt. Vernon, and Jerry (Mary) of Fredricktown, OH. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: a step son, Danny "Cook" Hedrick; and infant great-grandson; son-in-law, Aaron Kessel; 4 brothers, Hubert Day, Roy Jacob Day, Owen Day, and Jimmie Harper.

Mr. Day's family will receive friends on Monday, December 3, 2018, 4-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Theodore Bennett Officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton with Military Honors conducted by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
