Sadie Belle Propst , 99, a resident of Circleville, West Virginia went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 14, 2022 under Hospice Care of West Virginia Caring. She was born August 5, 1922 in Cherry Grove, Pendleton County, the daughter of the late Fred and Maggie Nelson. On August 5,1946 she married Raymond "Guy" Propst who proceeded her in death on October 6,1993.
She is survived by her son, Lanny Propst and wife Molly of Elkins, WV and her grandson Matt Propst of Wilmington, NC and granddaughter Letitia "Tish" Johnson and her husband, CJ Johnson of Elkins.
Sadie was the youngest of seven siblings and last surviving member of her family. She was proceeded in death by three sisters Ruth (Kerlin) Judy, Mabel Lou (Bard) Judy and Nell (Dale) Nelson; and three brothers Roland (Mildred) Nelson, Carl (Maydell) Nelson and Fred Allen Nelson Jr. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Circleville High School she attended Potomac State College and was a graduate of West Virginia University. A career of teaching spanned 30 years including one year at a three room schoolhouse and 29 years at Circleville High School where she taught home economics. Loved by her students Sadie taught many girls and later instructed their children.
Sadie was considered the matriarch of Circleville where she has spent practically her entire life in the house that she and her husband built in 1950. A long standing member of the Circleville Methodist Church where she was treasurer for over 50 years. She enjoyed being a wife, mom, grandmother and keeping her home in pristine condition. Gardening, canning, cooking, being an active member of the historic society, and visiting friends were her pastimes. Fortunately able to live by herself until the last month, Sadie drove and even traded cars at the age of 98.
Friends may call from 5-7 PM on Thursday, January 20 th at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, January 21 st at Basagic Funeral Home and burial will follow at the North Fork Cemetery in Riverton, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Circleville Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2, Circleville, WV. 26804; the Circleville High School Preservation, Inc., P.O. Box 73, Circleville, WV 26804; or the Pendleton Historic Society, P.O. Box 293, Franklin,WV 26807.
