Obituary

We celebrate the life and homecoming of Shirley Ruth Thompson. She began her journey on July 18,1928 in Riverton, West Virginia as the daughter of Oliver and Florence Hedrick.

In 1944, she met Paul J. Thompson who would become her husband on June 14, 1946. August of 1947, they welcomed their first child, Linda L. Thompson Wimer and shortly after, in August 1949, they welcomed their second child Paul Delmas Thompson. In April 1953, they welcomed their third child Deborah A. Thompson Smith and June 1956 they welcomed their fourth child, Jeffrey B. Thompson. October 1963, they welcomed their fifth child Connie L. Thompson Comer and in May of 1969 welcomed, for a brief moment, their sixth child Stacey E. Thompson, who went on to heaven to be with our Lord and Savior. Shirley was not only busy taking care of her home and family, but she also worked at many places outside of the home. From waitressing at The Star Hotel to factory work at the Franklin Garment and Hanover Shoe and later opening "Shirley's," which is now The Korner Shop. From "Shirley's," she and Paul owned and operated New Frontier Restaurant and Motel which is currently Fox's Pizza Den. Upon leaving the New Frontier, they entered retirement and Shirley returned back to family, whom by this time was quite large.

Shirley had 11 grandchildren which include: Angie Wimer Wilkerson, David Wimer, Amy Wimer Humphries, Abby Wimer Sponaugle, Rodney Smith, Michelle Smith McNair, Jeremiah Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Clay Comer and Mikayla Comer. She also had 11 great-grandchildren:  Michael Humphries,  Addison Sponaugle, Jaylen McNair, Tyce McNair, Alliyah McNair, Alex Withers, Sasha Smith, Katie Thompson, Micah Thompson, Andrew Thompson and Mary Jane Thompson. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Lovaine Warner (Roy Barth), and Sarah Smith (Bruce).

Shirley was also preceded in death by: 3 sisters, Joana Hedrick, Ruby Crown, Frances Halterman; and a brother, Paul Hedrick.

A special time the family could all count on being together was Christmas. Christmas with Paul and Shirley Thompson reflected the love that began on June 14, 1946.

On April 19, 2019 Shirley finished her journey here on earth and began her journey in heaven where she is reunited with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, precious husband Paul, daughter Deborah and son Stacey. It is our family's belief that because of the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ that we will join them all again one day in Heaven.

Mrs. Thompson's family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, 12-2 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jeffrey Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
