Thelma Lorraine Moats enter this life on April 20, 1933 as the 6th child of the late Albert Sammual Moats and Emma Cleriece Beverly Moats.
Thelma married Francisco B Newman Jr. on December 30, 1953. From this reunion they were blessed with two children Francisco Newman III, and Cleriece Newman Pressley. Thelma and Francisco Jr. divorced in 1981. On September 20, 1985, Thelma married Roscoe Moats, who preceded her in death.
Thelma had the privilege of her mother being her school teacher till the 8th grade. To further her education, she had to leave home to attend school in Harrisonburg Va and Buckhannon W. Va. She attended West Virgina State College in “Institute W. Va.” Thelma enjoyed her world travels as the wife of a service man. She worked in a variety of employment placements that were varied and enriching. Thelma enjoyed spending time with family, friends, traveling, cooking, canning and quilting. Thelma enjoyed dancing, family gatherings and hanging around the kitchen table reminiscing about the good old days.
Thelma was proceeded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Lawrence and Dee, Melvin and Mert Moats, Eugene, Harmon and Iola Moats, Grace and Virgil Moats, Beverly and Calvin Gardner, and Cora and Eugene Grandison and Samuel Barrow. She is survived by her younger brother Earl and Gloria Moats, and a sister Elsie Barrow. She leaves to cherish memories with her children affectionately known as CC and JD., a son-in-law Marshall, a grandson Marcus Pressley, and scores of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thelma departed this earthly life on June 15, 2026 at the residence her loving, caring and doting daughter’s home in Oxford NC.
Thelma's family will be celebrating her life at the Moatstown Chapel in Moatstown on Saturday June 27th at 11 a.m. Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com
