Thelma Elizabeth Walker, age 86, of Petersburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. She was born on September 4, 1934 in Seneca Rocks, WV, the daughter of the late Port Sites and Margie (Long) Sites.
Ms. Walker graduated from Circleville High School in 1952 and attended Mountain State Business School in Parkersburg, WV. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg and former member of the Eastern Star. Ms. Walker retired from the Department of Agriculture and Department of Defense in Washington D.C. in 2009 and then returned to Petersburg where she worked as a realtor at Century 21 and volunteered at the Grant Memorial Hospital Gift Shop for many years. Thelma loved to travel, garden and work in her yard. Her favorite place was sitting on her porch where she would enjoy watching the hummingbirds and waving to friends and neighbors passing by. She had a contagious smile and never met a stranger.
Ms. Walker is survived by: 1 daughter, Joyce Riggleman (Tim) of Cabins, WV; 2 sons, Terry Walker (Jan) of Williamsburg, VA and Ricky Walker of Moorefield, WV; 1 sister, Patsy Sites-Thornton of Bluefield, WV; 4 brothers, Dale Sites of Bayard, WV, Larry Sites (Susan) of Charleston, WV, Paul Sites (Sally) of Martinsburg, WV and Terry Sites (Dot) of Seneca Rocks, WV; 7 grandchildren, Tyson Riggleman (Kelli), Dylan Riggleman, Thomas Walker (Stephanie), Victoria Bodanyi (Raul Gonzalez), Krystal Walker, Ryan Walker and Ashlee Darley; 6 great-grandchildren, Camden Riggleman, Reyna Riggleman, Theo Walker, Mischa Gonzalez, Gergo Gonzalez and Alee Darley and a special friend, Harry Warnick of Mt. Storm, WV.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Billy and Carl Sites and 1 sister, Evelyn Sites.
Ms. Walker's family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 1PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Shannon Earle officiating. Interment will be at the North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton, WV.
