Therman Walter Berg , age 81, of Maysville, WV, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at his home. He was born on January 1, 1939, in Grant County, WV, the son of the late Austin John and Rhoda Ellen (Whetzel) Berg. On August 14, 1960, Therman married Helen Arveda (Sherwood) Berg, who survives in Maysville.
Mr. Berg had retired from Advantage Foods, and he had worked for Goldizen Logging, and Berg Construction, where he specialized in Carpentry. Therman was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and fisherman. He was a special grandfather to children, had a passion for ginsening, loved to tell hunting stories, and he never met a stranger. He was a member of the Cabins Assembly of God Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Berg is survived by: 3 daughters, Arveda Duncan Berg (Dewayne), Natalie Berg (Tony), Barbara Berg (Kim), all of Maysville, WV; a special daughter, Laura Coleman (Tim) of Roanoke, VA; 3 sons, James W. Berg of Maysville, WV, Timothy W. Berg (Laura) of Cabins, WV, Rodger W. Berg (Kathy) of Maysville, WV; a special son, Joseph Gallant of Maysville, WV; 6 sisters, Helen Leatherman (Clarence) of Moorefield, WV, Dotty Champ (Charles) of Purgitsville, WV, Beggie Kisamore (Dayton) of Cabins, WV, Annabelle McDonald (Forest) of Moorefield, WV, Bonnie Heavener (Will) of Petersburg, WV, Judy McIntire (Richard) of Maysville, WV; 3 brothers, Emory Berg of Maysville, WV, Sterl Berg of Maysville, WV, Randolph Berg of Elk Garden, WV; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a special friend and hunting buddy, Elmer Fazenbaker; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Ricky Berg and Darvin Berg; and a great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Barger Cemetery, Jordan Run, WV, with Pastor P. J. Landis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family, c/o Basagic Funeral Home, POB 400, Petersburg, WV 26847.
