Velma Kisamore

Velma Kisamore Phares Lyon , 93 of Petersburg, WV, pa ssed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Grant County Rehabilitation and Care Center. She was born June 25, 1925 in Onego, WV and was the daughter of the late Joel and Clara Dolly Kisamore.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her first husband Boyd Phares in February 1987 and her second husband Dwight W. Lyon September 2011; three brothers, Burl, Marvin, and Jonas Kisamore; 2 sisters, Vercie Kisamore Carr and an infant sister; son-in-laws Dale Keplinger and Ronnie Myers; and a great-great grandson, Thomas Olaf Berg. She was the monarch of seven sets of five generations.
Velma is survived by four daughters: Bernice P. (Harvey) Carr of Maysville, WV; Shirley J. Myers, Martinsburg, WV; Bonnie L. Keplinger, Petersburg, WV, Leta M. (Vernon Jr.) Carr of Lahmansville; and step-son Mike (Brenda) Lyon; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren; sisters Verda K. Bennett, Petersburg; Esther K. (Stan) Vernon, Richmond, VA, Ethel K. Phares Dickerson, Amissville, VA, and Otie K. Whitaker, WA; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
Velma worked at Grant Memorial Hospital as a certified medical assistant, Joan Curtis Sewing Factory, as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician in Grant County for several years, and retired as manager of the Guyan Factory Outlet Shoe Store in Petersburg. She received her GED through the South Branch Vocational Center and was a previous member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #78.
She was one of the last two surviving charter members of the Cabins Assembly of God Church that was established and built during the ministry of her Aunt Dairie Dolly.
Mrs. Lyon's family will receive friends on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6–8PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home with the Rev. Coleman Clark and Rev. Kenneth Phares officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery on the Ridge Road, Maysville, WV. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Velma Phares Lyon Memorial Fund, Cabins Assembly of God Church, C/O Bernice P.
