Vergie Mae (Hanna) Cartwright , age 93, of Brandywine, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at her home. She was born on February 22, 1928, in Richwood, WV, the daughter of the late Arbor and Verna Virginia (McClung) Hanna. Vergie married John Pershing "Purge" Cartwright, who preceded her in death on January 6, 2015.

Vergie attended Canvas grade school and graduated from Nicholas County High School and Charleston Beauty Academy. She owned and operated Vergie's Beauty Shoppe in Frankin, Moorefield, and Ft. Seybert, WV, until her retirement in 2008. Vergie was a Christian by faith.

Vergie is survived by: 2 daughters, Deborah Hanna of Ft. Seybert, WV, Brenda Jackson of Summersville, WV; a step daughter, Phyllis Hurt of TN; 2 step sons, Darrell Cartwright of Sumersville, WV, Basil "Darvin" Cartwright (Mary) of Sumersville, WV; 13 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Richard and Roger Hanna; and a sister, Nancy McCutcheon.

In honoring Vergie's wishes, her body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
