Obituary

Vestyl Sherman "Peck" Bible , age 89, of Franklin, WV, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA. He was born on September 11, 1934, in (Buffalo Hills) Franklin, WV the oldest son of the late Raymond and Myrtle V. (Smith) Bible. On April 20, 1955, Peck married the love of his life and his wife of 68 years, Shelby Jean (Rexrode) Bible, who survives in Franklin.


Peck developed an interest in auto repair as a youngster, while assisting his father, which lead him to become a well-known auto mechanic throughout the county. He had worked and applied his skills for Max Hartman, Kline Motors, and he especially enjoyed working with his brother Jim at Sunset Citgo in Harrisonburg, as well as operating Bible Auto Body Shop.


Peck was a member of the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren. He loved spending time with his family and friends and sharing stories.


In addition to his wife, Peck leaves behind to cherish his memory: 3 daughters, Sandra Bennett (Sherman), Carolyn Sponaugle (Bill), Amy Berg (Tim) all of Franklin, WV; 7 grandchildren, Renee Bennett Sager (Jack) of Morgantown, WV, Krista Bennett Walls (Wesley) of Elkton, VA, Kaitlin Mauzy (Michael) of Franklin, Logan Sponaugle of Morgantown, WV, Brandon Berg of Franklin, Ariana Whetselll (Ben) of Loveland, CO, Makayla Berg (Stephen) of Franklin ; 7 great-grandchildren, Krislyn Walls and Camden Walls of Elkton, VA, Conrad and Cassandra Sager of Morgantown, WV, Chandler and Brielle Mauzy of Franklin, and Maddox Whetsell of Loveland, CO; a sister, Genevieve Bible of Franklin; a brother, Jim Bible (Vada) of Harrisonburg, VA; nieces and nephews, Kevin Conley, Sherman Conley, Jr., Curtis Conley, and Karen Eberly, all of Virginia.


Peck's family will receive friends on Saturday, October 7, 2023, 1-3 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin, WV. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor David Morris officiating. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine, WV.
