Obituary

Willie Asa Heavener, age 86, of Petersburg, WV was welcomed into the gates of Heaven on June 10, 2025.  Mr. Heavener was born on June 26, 1938 in Mouth of Seneca, WV, the son of the late Asa Mason and Ella Mae (Moyers) Heavener.  On August 24, 1957 Willie married his bride of over 67 years, Bonnie Elleween (Berg) Heavener who survives in Petersburg.

Mr. Heavener attended Carr School in Dolly Town, WV and began a career in construction where he was foreman at Dittmar Construction in Fairfax, VA and later worked as an engineer for 47 years for Joe Koons Pontiac in Tysons Corner, VA.  Willie was a member of the Vienna Assembly of God Church for 35 years and served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, and subsequently attended Riverside Church in Dolly Town.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Willie leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Melinda L. Heavener (Mike Dodson) of Ashburn, VA; 3 sons, Dwayne A. Heavener Sr. of Cabins, WV; Terry M. Heavener (Brenda) of Cabins, WV; Douglas E. Heavener of Petersburg, WV; 2 brothers, Larry Heavener (Sally) of Cabins, WV; Luther Heavener of Cabins, WV; 6 Grandchildren, Dwayne A. Heavener, Jr.; Valerie Jones (Joey); Jeanie Heavener; Jacob Jones; Kyle Jones (Amanda); Ricky Dodson; 5 Great-grandchildren, Autumn Heavener; Dillon, Cameron, Liam, and Emma Jones.  He was preceded in death by: a grandson, Ryan Jones; 4 brothers, Ernest, Kenneth, Paul, and Mason Heavener; and 6 sisters, Betty Dolly; Alice Heavener; Rosetta Berg; Nora Berg; Merna Heavener; and Shirley Goldizen.

Willie's family will receive friends on Thursday, June 12, 2025, 5-7 PM, at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.  Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tommy George officiating.  Interment will be at the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV.  Memorial donations in Willie's honor may be made to the Riverside Church, POB 157 Cabins, WV 26855.  Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
